"Love and joy come to you"

I have to apologize to those I promised to do readings for...I'm again just not feeling up to the task this evening. There really is a need to be sufficiently focused and grounded, ready to pay attention, that just isn't there for me today. So, since I have a previously scheduled post for tomorrow, I will post the readings Friday evening/Saturday...so look for them then.

As I mentioned yesterday, The Wassail Song has some interesting lyrics, once you get past the first stanza. I've posted them here...

Here we come a-wassailing
Among the leaves so green,
Here we come a-wand'ring
So fair to be seen.
Love and joy come to you,
And to you your wassail, too,
And God bless you, and send you
A Happy New Year,
And God send you a Happy New Year.

We are not daily beggers
That beg from door to door,
But we are neighbors' children
Whom you have seen before
Love and joy come to you,
And to you your wassail, too,
And God bless you, and send you
A Happy New Year,
And God send you a Happy New Year.

Good master and good mistress,
As you sit beside the fire,
Pray think of us poor children
Who wander in the mire.
Love and joy come to you,
And to you your wassail, too,
And God bless you, and send you
A Happy New Year,
And God send you a Happy New Year

We have a little purse
Made of ratching leather skin;
We want some of your small change
To line it well within.
Love and joy come to you,
And to you your wassail, too,
And God bless you, and send you
A Happy New Year,
And God send you a Happy New Year.

Bring us out a table
And spread it with a cloth;
Bring us out a cheese,
And of your Christmas loaf.
Love and joy come to you,
And to you your wassail, too,
And God bless you, and send you
A Happy New Year,
And God send you a Happy New Year.

God bless the master of this house,
Likewise the mistress too;
And all the little children
That round the table go.
Love and joy come to you,
And to you your wassail, too,
And God bless you, and send you
A Happy New Year,
And God send you a Happy New Year.

I read my favorite columnist's column today, and it was about the "obesity epidemic." It triggered all of my lovely self-esteem issues pretty seriously. I actually wrote a response to him about it. It felt good to do it.

Then I came home experimented with taking lot's of pictures (none of which are appropriate for posting on the blog, but felt very body affirming), then erased them. I was inspired to photography because I went out to get a memory card for my camera which only holds 18 pictures without the addition of the card. I now can fit 600 pictures on my camera. I'm not sure I'll ever need to fit 600 pictures on my camera, but there it is.

Anyway, I'm feeling better about myself...

Don't forget to stop by Friday to check out the "least favorite movie" feature!

I'm glad you're feeling better; you're a beautiful woman. Why is it so easy to see this in others but so hard sometimes to see in ourselves? Anyway, I love your use of the camera to re-affirm yourself. Wonderful idea! :0)

I feel ignorant. What is wassailing?

BTW, save one of the pics for me next time.

Wassail is a type of drink typical in medieval England. Apparently served in a bowl...it was like spiced cider or beer...and topped with toast (to sop up the liquid). It was a favorite New Year's drink that actually got it's name from the toast you would say as you drank it: "Wes hael!" Meaning to your health.

I think it was also typical to offer it to children who would carol around the country side for cash, if the song lyrics are to be taken literally (and I don't know how they could be taken any other way).

About the reading. Take your time. I'm just excited that you are doing it. So however much time you need is just fine.

I agree. No pressure on the reading. Hmmm... Wonder if any bars her in NY are serving Wassail. If not, they should...

I went to a medieval night in an old abbey in Coventry a couple of years ago, it was ace!
They were singing that song good & proper & we all had to join in of course.
AND the accounts manager snogged me.

WASSAIL!!!!

Thanks for the lyrics. What is ratching? I did not know about wes hael! That was nice to find out about. Do you remeber the Claymation piece that was done with this song, where dinosaur characters made to resemble Roger and Ebert reviewed different interpretation of the song? That was very funny. I havn't seen it in a while.
