My mother had foot surgery today. She had ruptured a tendon and had that repaired, and they also had to re-do her bunnion surgery. In the surgery, they found that her Achilles tendon had gotten pretty tight, so they stretched that a bit, too. A 5 hour surgery on her one foot. So she's been having a bit of pain.
I just got off the phone with her in the hospital. I asked her if they'd given her good drugs, and she said that they had her on morphine for the pain. She sounded groggy, but okay...then the best line ever popped out of her mouth. "I've got a turkey in my room!" she said. Then a second later: "Did I just say, 'I've got a turkey in my room'?!"
She also told me that she's keeping Sister's pickles captive until she stops by to see them...that way she's sure to visit.
Other fine utterances, completely out of context to our conversation: "I think I'll keep the cake." (she was just finishing dinner) and "I was sleeping and all this beeping woke me up." I'm still not sure what the last was in reference to.
P.S. Yes, it is pickle time this year...mine are on the way, I'm assured. She got second place for her dills and third place for her sweets. Go, Mom!

I hope your mom is feeling better now.
The beeps were probably the sounds of the equipment in her room. How funny about the rest! My grandfather had heart surgery and had a bad reaction to the morphine. He saw giant spiders crawling all over his room and heard the Life Star helicopters landing with emergency patients on the helipad above. He thought the earth was being invaded by the spiders and that the hospital was being evacuated, but that they were going to leave him behind! It's funny to talk about now, but he was clearly terrified at the time. Glad your mom's reaction is more pleasant. I would suggest calling her often! *G* I do hope she's better soon, though...
