I got paid today...and being that this is a month in which I receive 3 paychecks, I had a little extra money to play with. So I decided that this was a good time to start planning my travel to Minnesota at Christmas. Last year, I postponed purchasing a ticket until October and ran into much more expensive prices.
So, I go to Cheap Tickets first, and the cheapest flight that came up was $500 round-trip. It was on multiple airlines and required a transfer. I knew that I could do better than that, so I went to the Sun Country website. They have terribly inconvenient travel times, but are the cheapest thing going in and out of Minneapolis (Northwest Airlines has it's main hub in Minneapolis, and a direct flight with them on the dates I want is running about $700.). I got the dates I wanted on a direct flight for $346.
But here's the catch, for those of you planning to travel at the holidays: I went to reserve my seat on the plane and found that over half the plane was sold out already. The moral of the story is that if you plan to travel at the holidays and want a reasonable price, I think the time to book your travel is now.
I've honestly never seen prices this high. In the past, the Sun Country flights have been under $300, and even buying late, I've been able to find flights under $500 without trouble. I'm a bit in shock.
I'm going to go lie down and call for my smelling salts.
P.S. My pickles arrived! 7 quarts and 2 pints of nummy goodness. HippyChick and BeeDragon are getting a whole quart of the spicy sweets.

The rising cost of gas has been cited for the increase in fare price. I've been checking out various flight costs for vacation spots and am in the same state of shock.
Good news about the pickles, though!
