Item 1: Katie Couric is the new anchor for the CBS Evening News. This in itself is a bit odd, but that doesn't hold a candle to the recent commercials that have been floating to promote said news program. The set-up is Katie sitting with two local anchors talking about the importance of credibility...or are they? Here's a quote: "It's important that people feel they can trust their news source." My problem with this is that the emphasis is on instilling a sense of trust - not on becoming a credible news source.
Item 2: The lead story for the evening news last night was the hostage situation in the Colorado school yesterday. The story just after that? The grand opening of the "long awaited" Bloomingdales shopping center. The only thing newsworthy about that story is that someone thought that another Bloomingdales was actually needed.
I'll add more items during the day, if any come up.

I'm not a big Katie fan. So - I won't look her up at 6:30. Ever.
Lizzy - sadly, I'm not all that shocked by it. It's pretty standard fare, at least with Hollywood, to touch up pictures of women in photos.
Jamie Lee Curtis, in 2002, did a photo shoot with More magazine to show the difference between her real body and the image of herself made up to Hollywood standards (3 hours and 13 people later). It was huge news.
Back to Katie - well, she's always been the queen of news-ertainment, so the idea that they would touch her up Hollywood-style seems like a natural fit.
Cynical? Me? Nah!
