Frustration...

Another sign, perhaps, that I am feeling well.

So SlowTalker has been gone for over a week. TwinMan and I have not been able to hook up for over a week - although, I should mention that he is most likely on his way out of the picture. Nice guy, but just doesn't have much time in his life for dating. CollegeFriend is not due til September. And now that my period is over, I am officially in heat again. It's a beautiful way that this birth control pill seems to work.

My frustration extends to X3, which I went to see this afternoon. Please note that there may be some spoilers here for those who haven't seen the movie. So if you don't want to know things that you will learn within the first 20 minutes or so, then stop now and read no further.

Let me start by saying that it was a smartly made movie with lovely special effects that should be seen on the big screen. I was entertained, but I felt like I could have been more entertained. Storm stole the movie right out from under everyone - even Wolverine.

So the frustrating part was the return of Jean Gray. I didn't mind that she came back, but I did mind the treatment of her in the storyline. Here is yet another movie that demonizes the "bestial" power of women. She is the veritable Lady of the Lake with powers beyond anyone's means, and yet they must be sealed off and sanitized with the rational power of Charles Xavier. And when she erupts, with all her sexual passion and joy and rage, she is a danger to herself and others. And unfortunately, unlike the White Witch in the Narnia movie, she's not even a very compelling character. Apparently, her "beast" self doesn't ever really get any chance to speak.

There are the other themes of otherness and what we would do if we could choose to be more like others than we are...and the ethics of wanting to "fix" those who are different (let's get over it people, we are all different in some way...).

I still think it should be seen. It's still entertaining, it just got me a bit worked up, that's all. I suppose it's only natural since I'm "worked up" in other ways, which I suppose is a danger to all around me.

I'm off to find some dinner - I need to sink my "beast's" teeth into some fake-beast tonight, I think.

P.S. Can someone tell me why it would be that the Wolverine's pants were not flayed off his body at the end of the film when his shirt was. And I am just devastated at the loss of the gorgeous Mystique and her beautiful body paint.

P.P.S. Why do I have 3 smoke detectors in a studio apartment? Once the smoke clears from the pizza disaster, I'm going to live dangerously and only reconnect the one.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I have to agree that Wolverine's pants should definitely have been flayed off. Come on, if it were a female character, you know they would have been.

And Wolverine= Hugh Jackman, so they really should have been removed. *G*

Glad you're beginning to feel better and, yes, I think 3 smoke detectors are probably overkill. :0D

Jean Gray/Phoenix reminded me an awful lot of Evil Willow, only Willow's character was better developed. I agree ... we only got to see Jean Gray's power increase and then blow out and then see her go all limp or sad/scared/shocked ... we didn't get to truly see what anger/rage/passion did to her personality. But we enjoyed the movie a lot anyway. And Storm was awesome, but I even wanted her to be more awesome than that. I was kinda sad about the fate of all the punk mutants.

We've had a lovely weekend celebrating our anniversary, and the weather couldn't be better.

...ok, I'm not sure if this posted the first time, so I'm trying it again... Sorry if it's a duplicate.

HAHAHAHA!

i wondered the same thing about Wolverine! i wanted some booty! the boys always get booty. they got stinky jean grey in boy shorts (not only is jean grey SUPER irritating, but Famke always checked out my man everytime we saw her in NYC!! which was often, sadly. i thought i was going to have to take her down. and the thing is that i could. yeah. i know i could.)

anyway, the rest of the movie was pointless, once i realized that there was no hugh jackman booty. so sad. had to come home and watch Gerard Butler flex his way through Attila to make up for it...

weenut - you should have taken her down. I never did understand why it was that Wolverine would take one look and fall in love. Really Halle Berry is much more beautiful.

Atilla, eh? I wonder if I can get that on Netflix

If you'd like, Spin, you could me and High Jackman in the same room and I'll do my best to flay his pants off. With my teeth. Rrrrrrrrr...
