Health at Every Size

I don't have much time to write this morning, as I have several things I need to get done before I head out to see clients today. Yesterday wasn't much to talk about...laundry, therapy, saw Knocked Up.

As most of you know, I've been talking more about weight and health and the idiocy of some aspects of our culture around this topic recently. It's mostly because I've "been there, done that" with the whole round of dieting and feeling crappy about myself because of my weight. I've always been a fat person to some degree, and I don't believe that my body is inclined to ever be skinny.

So that leaves me in a bit of a conundrum in our society, if you are to believe everything that is being reported in the media about weight and health these days. But the media is not reporting everything that is being studied about weight and health. There are a lot of great resources that I've already talked about or have linked to on my sidebar which I encourage everyone to look at.

But there is one thing that I had not heard about until I googled it this a.m. I just typed Health at every size into the search line and pulled up all sorts of interesting things, including a study that was done at UC-Davis in 2005. The study found that among its participants, the group that was chosen to follow the Health at Every Size curriculum did better on several health indicators and had improved scores on depression indicators. These women were happier and healthier. They were more active and they had better relationships to food.

And how many of you have heard of this study? I sure hadn't, and I'm looking for this stuff all the time.

Anyway, go to google, look it up. Have a wonderful rest of the weekend.

I have lost and gained SO much weight since pre-adolescence even, almost always "supervised" by doctors and I"m sure it's fucked my system up so much more than it would have been had I kept myself on an even keel. So, I'm with you on this one! :)

love,
