The Weekend

So, after an awful end to the week, I decided that I would heed the rain and spend my weekend in. And it was glorious. I cleaned, cooked, read, took naps, knitted, spoke to friends and family, and watched The L Word...first season on DVD compliments of Hippie Chick.

If you haven't seen this series, and you can get your hands on it at the local rental shop, please do. It's just this short of porn, in some sections, and full of lovely dyke (and bi) drama. Really, I think there is something for just about every-right thinking-one. Sadly, for those in the know, lesbians and bi women are neither as homogenuously thin, gorgeous, or glamorous as those in the show. But still it was pretty to watch, and does a good job of bringing in lot's of issues (i.e. butch-femme, bisexuality, racial/ethnic tensions, sex work, coming out, feminism) in a way that doesn't feel like you are attending a NOW rally.

I'm reading a good book that I thought I would share. It's Citizen Girl, by Emma McLaughlin & Nicola Kraus. They were the ones who teamed up on the Nanny Diaries. It's less funny, simply because it is somewhat horrifying. It confirms my gratitude at having my own job (even if said job is stressful sometimes) and not having to look for "any" job with just my liberal education behind me.

I'm so glad you're finally getting to watch the L Word! We just got home from watching it tonight, and part of this week's episode is filmed on an Olivia Cruise, which made us look forward to the one we're gonna take in October for our honeymoon!!! ... it'll give you something to look forward to when Season 2 is available on DVD :) In the meantime, thank goodness for friends with cable *grin*

Actually, my connection for the DVD is also taping the 2nd season. So I'm expecting to get the first tape in a month or so (when it makes the rounds). Also, I forgot to say that I've actually stayed at the hotel in Palm Springs where they filmed the episode with the Dinah Shore Classic in it. It was for the wedding I did over New Years. It was amusing, since it was not that hopping while I was there.
