Pot & Pitbulls

These seem to be perennial topics of news in this area.

Medical marijuana got bashed in the head recently due to the CA Supreme Court decision that federal interstate commerce laws could be used against medical marijuana growers and distributers. It's a silly argument, really, since medical marijuana is grown and sold locally and is distributed without cost to the consumer. No commerce and it's intrastate. But as the CA court decision indicates, the federal laws really do need to change to reschedule marijuana, which can't happen, unfortunately without more studies (said studies need to be funded, which the government won't do because it's pot...so it's a catch 22). I don't know about the health benefits of smoking marijuana (inhaling smoke into your lungs really is never a good thing), but I think that if someone is in great pain and pot helps the pain or just helps forget - give it to them.

This past weekend, there was another dog mauling death. This time it was a baby that was mauled. Everybody is up in arms about pitbulls again and it just pisses me off. Yes, pitbulls are dangerous animals...mostly because they are not smart enough to know the power of their own jaws. But mostly because someone bred an animal whose primary purpose was the mauling and killing of other animals. We now have an overabundance of these animals because the breading of pitbulls for sport is still alive and well. So let's not blame the animals, let's blame the people who get some sort of sick thrill out of putting two living creatures in a pit together and betting on which one will come out alive. (I'm no fan of bullfighting either - don't get me started.)

So, this a.m., with both these things in the news, I started thinking that perhaps the way to get some sort of legitimacy for pot and to take the heat off the pitbulls...Let's let the pits start smoking pot. I mean, really, when have you ever seen someone baked and agressive (unless you are interfering with their Twix fix or something).
