"Perceiver and perceived"

So I'm dragging out my posts on this little contest a bit. I've sent HC a synopsis of the answers and done some research, and we will let you know the winner tomorrow night. It's an interesting combination of characters from a broad, broad range of films. The judging is going to be difficult because there are several that neither HC or I have seen before, but I was able to track down some good descriptions of films and characters so that should help. I'm sure that Mystic would be pleased to hear that I was inspired to watch The Hunger...I was looking for movies tonight and thought, what the hell, you can't go too wrong with Catherine Deneuve, David Bowie, and Susan Sarandon.

Only a few people picked up the second challenge of who they identify with themselves, so you can always jump in with your comments with this post if you like. I won't keep you all in suspense...although I am a fickly creature and subject to change, right now I identify internally with Eowyn. She's the king's daughter in Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. She is single, and although she flirts with Aragorn, he cannot return her affection. But she goes on and helps to save the day by killing one of the Ring Wraiths in the last battle. Although I may not present this way externally, there is a bit of the warrior that is inside of me.

My Sunday was pretty uneventful...particularly in the cleaning house area of events. This is not new, of course, but with NaNoWriMo bearing down on me, I am worried about living in a sty for the next month. I also have not figured out what to wear for Halloween this year...usually I just dress as a witch, but I've decided I want to do something different and now I just don't know what. I could be a vampire (a la the Hunger), but I don't think that's quite kosher when one works in a dialysis facility.

Well, my pretties. I'm off to visit a few blogs, then I think I will go to bed a bit early tonight.

I love Eowyn.
There's something about that scene when she's facing down the King of the Ringwraths and says scornfully "I am no man" that always makes me want to leap up and down cheering!

Yeah, my Sunday was uneventful, too. We were sitting around wondering if Wilma would drift north. It didn't. Whew!

Sorry I've been absent for awhile - once I catch up with my new AP class, I'll be back on a more regular basis!

Night Spins!

And I too get the Eowyn thing!

Eowyn was my favorite woman in the books. Arwen barely appeared in them, and I could never understand why Aragorn would choose her over Eowyn. Excellent choice Spin!

As for which character I most identify with, in the past it would have been Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany's. I'm not quite sure who I am now, though. There's still a little Holly, but I think perhaps there's something more.

Fred - good to hear that Wilma missed you...I'll be here when you get back.

Aravis - Interesting choice...that's another movie I've never seen all the way through. Some weekend I'm going to do an Audrey Hepburn film festival....

Flash - well, it's actually middle of Monday afternoon now. We're not quite that far behind you. :)

Now I have a problem with Lord of the Rings characters, because to me they're from a book rather than a film... and Aravis is right - Tolkien wasn't great on women characters.

Oh Spin, it is no good. I still can't substitute a film character for you, or even a book one. I think you are quite lovely as you are, as our Spin.

ps - word verification has come with "aifaeph" which is perhaps what I should have had instead of "Oh".

Eowyn is a good match for you, no doubt about it. For me, there are two characters I have identified with in films. One was from an old french film called "les enfants du paradis" of Marcel Carne, written by my all time favorite poet Jacques Prevert. The character is Batiste. A young man caught between two lovers, confused by it, and having difficulties finding his way. (That's a libra thing, I guess always weighing your options) The other is the character played by Ally Sheedy in the "Breakfast Club." That is soo me in my younger days, and to a point still today, the oddness, wanting to shock, doing my own thing in looks and behaviors. I just love the scene where she scratch her head to make it "snow" on her drawing. But no, I do not have a severe dandruff problem.

P'tit - that's exactly the scene I was thinking about w/Ally Sheedy when I said I was a combo of most of the breakfast club characters - no wonder we get along so well :)
