Misdiagnosis

I mentioned in my last post that I've started reading a book called "Understanding the Borderline Mother." It's a bit of a misnomer, I think, because most of the book seems to revolve around how the child is affected by a mother with this personality disorder.

I mostly was interested in reading the book because it is my opinion that my father and my aunt both have symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder. They have a history of childhood abuse by their mother, so this makes sense. My mother, in speaking of my grandmother, had always speculated that she was a "manic depressive" or had what is now called Bi-Polar Disorder. But, in reading this book, I am now more convinced that she had Borderline Personality Disorder, instead.

Because most people afflicted by this disorder have had trauma in their childhood, of some sort, it raises very interesting questions about my grandmother and other of our relatives on that side of the family.

Anyway, as fascinating as I'm sure this is to all of you...

My weekend was a good one - besides the lovely sex, I went to see a production of King Arthur which was really interesting, and last night, the three of us (S, SS, and I) dressed as pirate & pirate wenches and went to a pirate haunted house. S was HOT in pirate clothes, I tell thee. We were the only attendees dressed up, but that doesn't matter because S looked HOT in pirate clothes. Oh, I'm sorry, did I mention that before?

I did get a photo of myself all pirate-y and I will try to post it soon. I've been delinquent with all my picture posting, I know.

Well, everyone, have a good Monday.

That was an interesting insight into your family, Spins. I, too, wonder about these things. Within my own family, of course, not yours. *G*

I can't wait to see those pirate-y pics! :0)

I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on the book. My ex has borderline pd and I have wondered possible effects on our son (and on me and his brother as well).

Yes, I want pics! Borderline, huh? I was once told by a therapist that I had borderline symptoms. It was not a diagnosis though. I never really looked into it... Strange.

Hyde - I think that many of us have symptoms that would fall under the borderline diagnosis; however, out of the nine listed, you must have at least 5 in order to be diagnosed as borderline.

I have 3 or 4 that have been persistent throughout my life, and have qualified with 5 at some points in time.

What are the nine listed? Now I've got a "google" project...
