Last night, getting home from a walk, I was admiring the lovely homes of the three spiders that have taken up residence outside my apartment building.
My downstairs neighbor was home and had let his cat out into the main part of the apartment. The cat was at the window. To say that he was admiring the spiders would be a bit of a misnomer. He had the fixed gaze that only a predator can have for its prey. It's the most intense thing to witness.
You can bet those spiders were thanking their lucky stars that the cat lives behind the glass barrier.

I love how they can patiently wait for the longest time on top of a gopher hole despite never catching anything!
My cats are enjoying the new bay windows because they open and the cats can hear the birds more clearly and smell the squirrels and chipmonks. They'll sit there for hours, waiting patiently for the screen to magically disappear so they can hunt down their prey.
Because of course the mice in the house are not enough of a challenge.
