Valentine's Day in recap

I had a lovely picnic with S. It was a good break from work and he brought a little chocolate tart which was amazing! It was just good to spend time with him in the middle of the day.

I met up with him after work to go to aerial dance class with he and SS. He gave me a heartshaped balloon. It was very sweet and I got to take it with me to class. He got one for SS as well, but had to wait to give it to her until after class.

Class was fun. I felt like I was stronger than when I was in the class before. I still need to get a bit stronger, but it was a lot more fun this time. I also got to play on a hoop and with fabric. The fabric was, by far, the most comfortable to swing from.

We went to dinner after, then headed home to bed. I'm a wee bit sore this morning from the class...and also the mah jong that I played on my computer on Tuesday evening.

S told us that he doesn't like Valentine's day because he doesn't like the idea that it is the one day that you celebrate your connection to the ones you love. I agree...but that's not what the day is for me. For me, it is something that taps into that little girl part of me that wants to be a fairy princess with her prince. In short, it is an irrational response to our culture's myth of "happily ever after." I have not liked it in the past for that very reason...I didn't have a prince charming and I didn't get to be the fairy princess. That made me mad and sad and generally not wanting to be reminded that other girls (because it really is that girl in me) got to have it.

Can I get you anything else, your majesty?

Glad you got to experience your fairy tale in person. We all need that from time to time. The Hubby and I went to a mexican restaurant and they gave all couples free glasses of champagne! Wasn't that sweet!

Do the people who dislike Valentine's Day for this reason feel the same way about Christmas spirit? I never thought about it before but this post of yours brought it up. At Christmas you hear people say that we should bring that spirit of love and peace with us throughout the year, not save it for the holiday. Hm.

Valentine's meant more to me when I was younger, much as it did for you. Now I don't want candy, flowers, fancy dinners or jewelry. Just having some time at home with my husband is enough. But the cards he bought me and hid around the house were greatly appreciated all the same! *G*
