Wet Weekend Dreaming of Hawaii

So we are finally getting significant rain! This is a wonderful thing, if only the gail-force winds would have just stayed home. Still, a little thing like wet socks and blown back hoods is nothing if we can avoid a drought for another year.

I've spent part of today calling Hawaii. We were waiting to see when SS would be graduating from her hula school (I think she'll still attend classes, but she's not considered a student in the same way...I don't really know how that works) to plan when to go. It's a bit ironic, that.

So now we can plan. I've picked out a B&B in Kailua for the second part of our trip, and for the first part, I think that I'm going to convince S that we should stay at the Backpackers of Hawaii. He was skeptical before, when I mentioned it, but it really is a great deal. $135 a night for one of their standard studios. The building looks right out on Pupukea Beach Marine Sanctuary. It sounds wonderful, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg like something on Turtle Bay.

I have a book called Hidden Oahu that I'm going to start reading and highlighting. I talked to Stan the surfer man (I added that last part, I don't think he's ever called that in real life) who is willing to teach S & I to surf - for money of course. I'm looking at a tour of a Ukelele factory and a tour of Iolani Palace. And I want to go to see Kukaniloko Birthstones where the royal women used to go to give birth (I suppose if there was enough time to plan). And hopefully we will be able to go scuba diving in Hanauma Bay with the sea turtles!

So there it is..."Wet weekend dreaming of Hawaii."

I'm off to meet two women from the Women's Therapy Center. They were faculty and supervisors when I was there and I'm talking to them about doing a presentation in April for the Alumni forum. I'm strangely nervous, even though I don't really have to pitch to them.

I don't know what else is doing this weekend. S has not yet sent a weekend plan, so I don't know whether to be ready to go to his house when I get home, or if I get the evening here at home to be cleaning and grocery shopping, etc. Ah, well...

Here via SBTB.

I used the Hidden Oahu book two years ago when visiting Hawaii -- it was fabulous; my sister had the Lonely Planet guide, which was okay, but the HO book's maps and hints really made the difference in our trip. :)
